Do recipe contests still exist? I know there are a lot of free recipes on the web and I appreciate the ones shared here, but I created a great recipe and think it might get more attention if it won a contest or got into a "best of diet recipes cookbook" or something like that. Anyone know of any?

Hello everybody, I just started the zone around 2-3 weeks ago and also started a fit-day diary just now.
Deciding that seeing it was 3:00pm I should have lunch I matched the contents of our pantry and fridge to make what now is my favourite zone lunch so far so here it is for anybody who wants to make it:

Bacon and egg salad with stir-fry side


-2 oz Canadian bacon, lean (2 Blocks Protein)
-1 whole egg (1 Block Protein)
-1 and a half c baby spinach (Negligible amount of Carbohydrate)
-3 almond stuffed olives, sliced (2 Blocks Fat)
-1/2 c mixed bean sprouts (1 Block Carbohydrate)
-1 and a half c onion, chopped (1 Block Carbohydrate)
-4 c mushrooms, sliced (1 Block Carbohydrate)
-1/3 c water-chestnuts, sliced (1 Block Carbohydrate)
-1 t soy sauce (-)
-1t lemon juice (-)
-Dressing (1/3t olive oil, 1 T vinegar, dash of garlic & herb mix, salt and pepper) (1 Block Fat)

Cook the bacon and egg (I microwaved them), slice and mix with spinach, bean sprouts, olives and dressing. There's your salad.
Fry together the onions, mushrooms, water-chestnuts, soy sauce and lemon juice until cooked and serve next to the salad.

Yum Yum!

Breakfast - Blueberry shake (milk, yoghurt, protein powder, oats, blueberries, peanut butter).
Mid-morning snack - Zoneperfect snack size (while everyone else was eating muffins).
Lunch - Turkey, tomatoes, lentil & pea sprouts, almonds. Nectarine.
Afternoon Snack - more turkey, small orange, almonds.
Naughty moment - green tea latte
Evening meal - Chicken thigh, salad of baby spinach, fennel, capsicum & tomatoes. Hummus.

Has everyone abandoned the Zone? [11 Sep 2007|10:42am]

I've been pseudo on the Zone for several years. It did work as weight loss when I started and was on it strictly. It's a difficult diet, but it has taught me a lot about carbs. I have a candida problem which is considered pre-diabetic. My doctor says I'm been doing a great job of keeping my sugar level down - it used to be in the pre-diabetic range and now it's high normal. I credit this to the Zone.

Hey! My name is Holly and I'm 5'7" and 142.5. My short term goal is 123 (my weight 2 summers ago), and my longterm goal is 115. I am a vegetarian, try to avoid eating eggs and dairy (though sometimes I have to), and loosely follow Zone Perfect. I eat 1200 calories a day, I've been eating better this past week so far and weigh myself daily. 

As for excercise, I run 30 minutes five days a week. I enjoy long distance running and plan on running a marathon in the fall.
I'm excited for spring too! :) 

I hope to find mutual support and encouragement in this community! :)

I started The Zone diet 6 months ago and I haven't been happy with the results :( To start off, I gained about 10-15 lbs; and it's only been within the last few weeks that I have (barely) gotten down to the weight I began (145). I've gone down about 1" around my waist, and like, a quarter inch everywhere else, if not any change at all...

I don't binge and purge, nor do I "cheat" on the diet.

The only things I am not too good with is timing (when I eat the meals) and I eat pasta at least once a day.

I do like this diet. Parts of it do work for me and I'd like to stay with it, but I have NOT been happy with the results at all. :(

And I'm on the 'lose weight' plan too. I don't get it??!

Anyone, ANY ideas?

Hi all,

My personal trainer suggested that I start a 40-30-30 diet to get out of my weight loss plateau. What do you all like to eat for snacks? I'm used to high-carb snacks, like crackers or cereal bars, so I could really use some suggestions!

Here are some 40-30-30 snack ideas I had...I calculated the macronutrient ratios using FitDay.

-4oz low fat cottage cheese mixed with 1 tsp flax oil, 2 kiwis
-1 small apple and 2 light string cheeses
-1/2 cup salsa mixed with 2 tbs fat free shredded cheddar and 1/6 avocado with 10 baked tortilla chips
-2 Tbs hummus eaten with a small zucchinni, sliced (sounds strange but SO GOOD!) and a slice of fat free cheese
-1 serving ham in a small whole wheat pita with mustard, a small pickle, and 8 raw almonds
-1 cup eggplant cubes, steamed, with peanut sauce made from 1/2 tbs reduced fat peanut butter, 2 tbs tamari, and 1 tsp agave nectar with lime and cayenne to taste
-Whole wheat mini bagel with 1/5 avocado, 1 slice of fat free cheese, and 1/3 cup alfalfa sprouts and a boiled egg white
-Whole wheat mini bagel with 1 tbs low fat whipped cream cheese, 1 oz lox, and red onion and capers to taste
-Low fat Nutri-Grain waffle spread with 2 tsp low-fat peanut butter and a boiled egg white
-1/2 oz turkey jerky and 10 apple chips
-8oz container of fat free plain yogurt with 1 tsp flax seed oil

One month into the Zone diet and I am down to 134lbs. I have lost 3" around my waist and 2" around my hips. I weighed 146 when I started. \o/

hi, i've been watching this community for a while but i've only joined today.
i started the zone diet about a month ago, and since then i've lost 12 lbs.

currently i'm 143 lbs
my starting weight was 155
my short term goal is 135 (by my birthday, dec. 11th)
my long term goal is 125.

I still have a long way to go, but I'm happy with my progress so far. Good luck to everyone!

Hi Folks,

Who's the moderator of this group? I see that the Zone Perfect Site is linked on the info page as the web site for this group, but that's not the offical site of Dr. Barry Sears, the creator of the diet. His web site is http://www.drsears.com and his diet web site is http://www.zonediet.com. The icon the group is using is from his original book, Enter The Zone, so I thought this group would be about his work and theories, not the spin-offs.

I did the Zone back in 1994 when the book first came out, as part of a study in the physiology program at the university I was attending. I lost 14 pounds in six weeks, and my endurance increased dramatically. I also slept better than I ever had, and my moods were always calm and happy. I got to speak with many of Dr. Sears' associates, the doctors that worked with him.

Unfortuantely, I got lazy, and I haven't stuck with it, though I've been on and off it for these past 10 years. It really drives me crazy that people misrepresent this diet as high-protein or low-carb. It is higher in carbs than protein or fat, and while the percentage of protein is higher than the ADA diet, the amount of protein is the same! It's also extremely high in fruits and vegetables, if you actually eat the favorable carbs, and not the shakes/bars and other rip-offs. One thing I can say about this diet - it's the most food you can possibly stuff into 1200 calories. Just eat the favorable carbs, and you won't believe how much food there is.

How did the rest of you discover The Zone?

hi !! i just joined. my names Melody.
my friend & i are on the Pritikin Diet (simliar to The Zone, i think.)
& we're looking for recipes for lunch/snack/dinner
under 400 calories, low carb, low fat.
i'm a terrible cook with very little imagination & we're getting a bit sick of living off of toated sandwhiches and vegetables!
id love to see what ideas you've all got! thanks in advance! xx

I saw that some one was going to do the soy zone diet and i've been interested in that too so I joined :-D stats:
I feel very fat. I need to exercise a lot more. Any one want to make up a plan with me that we could encourage eachother to do (well I need the encouragement anyway) alright well good luck to everyone

i just found out about the zone diet by a friend, when i asked suggestions on how to lose weight. i've never been on a diet before, and to me honest it kind of makes me nervous. i want to lose around 15 lbs, but on the soy zone rather than the regular zone diet. if anyone has any tips or suggestions for ways to start and stay on it, it would be great...

Hi Everyone! I have a question about the zone diet. Im not made of money so I wanted to know do I have to spend alot on this diet? and Will the book alone help me lose weight? If so where can I get the book? Okay so I didnt just ask one question I had 3 sue me! No dont cause Im broke! *cires and laughs at self* Thankyou for any advice given :) Bye Everyone!
